Ode to Link Wray

Link Wray - May 2, 1929 - November 5, 2005
Early rock pioneer Link Wray, who invented the power chord and thus influenced some of the genre's most famous musicians, has died at the age of 76. If you've ever played a power chord then you've been influenced by this man. If you enjoyed the soundtrack to Pulp Fiction or Desperados then you've heard this man. The world is now a poorer place.

New Larrivee Guitar

This 'sweetheart' guitar arrived yesterday. On the first strum I was stunned by it's sparkling midrange and punchy bottom end. Even a hard strum couldn't break this baby's tone up. Strong and full and with all the lovely Larrivee appointments including black tuning buttons and a lovely tortoiseshell pickguard. You have GOT to come see this one.

Songwriting Workshop Report

The folks who took part in our first songwriter workshop were treated to an inside look at the process that Keelaghan uses to develop his songs. The session was user directed so there were tons of questions and answers and examples culled from Keelaghan's extensive catalog. All agreed that this event was a success and more are in the works. Look for another songwriting workshop with Steve Bell in the new year as well as instrumental and technical workshops.

Manitoba Digs Out

Wow! What a change from the weekend. I was walking around on Friday night with just a light coat as temperatures hovered around 10 above. Then over last night snow started falling and kept on falling. As of Nov 15th we are under snow once again.

I always like this time of year because I get to spend more time indoors playing guitar and writing music. And cabin fever hasn't hit yet so I enjoy the closeness and the intimate feeling of the early nights. By February I'll be wishing it would end too, but for right now...give me a guitar and a long winter night to strum away!

Songwriting Workshop update
